Hannie (Joan) Laven, (February 28, 1937) peacefully passed away at the Welland General Hospital on Friday, June 29, 2018. Joan leaves behind her loving husband John. She was the beloved mother of James, William and Rita (Gatzke), Shirley and Richard Norman. Will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Kris, Jesse, Tara, Blake (Amanda), Amaraine (Stevan), Gabriel (Jessie) and Megan (David), Chelsea and Tony and her four great- grandchildren, Miles, Athanor, Sabrina and Sava. Dearly loved sister of William Bethlehem and Sjanie, Beatrix Lof, Theresa Schulenberg, Alida Bethlehem, Harry Bethlehem and Ina and many nieces and nephews. Joan survived WWII and emigrated from The Netherlands to Canada with her parents and younger siblings in 1950. She made a comfortable life for her family in Fenwick after time in Burlington and Toronto. Joan was a Red Cross Care Aid. Funeral service will be held at the Fenwick United Church, Monday, July 9 at 11:00 a.m. Thank you for your consideration. The Freure family sadly announce the passing of Gerald Freure (son of Charles and Mable Freure) on June 17 at Lookout Ridge in Fonthill. He was in his 94th year. He was very recently deceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley (June 11). Devoted father of Barbara (Bryan), Ralph (Nancy), Robert, Brenda (Bruce), Beverly (Michael) and Bette (Bill). Proud grandfather of Brandon (Angela) Dove, Chris (Lisa) and Tom (Katie) Freure, Erin and Derek (Nicole) Kearney, Rebecca (Elliott) Miller and Michael Richards.“Great” grandfather to Ayla and Silas, Nathan, Maddie and Anna, Juliette, Adam, Mark and Eleanor and Callum. Survived by sister Joan (Joe) Harbell, sister in laws Barb Reid and Ann Roth(Ed), brother in law Bill MacDonald, cousins Jim (Beth) and Margaret Freure, nephew Jim (Pat) Harbell . Gerald played an integral part in the Niagara farming community. He was awarded a Master Breeders Shield by Holstein Canada. He served on various agricultural boards and committees. He led 4H clubs for 15 years. He served on the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and as a West Lincoln Alderman for 9 years. He received the Ontario Bicentennial Certificate of Merit , as well as a Lifetime Achievement award from North Niagara Federation of Agriculture and Citizen of the Year Award. A devoted family man, he was never happier than when surrounded by his loved ones. Respecting Gerald wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick on Sunday June 17th from 2-4p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A joint Celebration of Life for Gerald and Shirley will be held at Fenwick United Church on Monday, June 18 at 11 a.m. Lunch to follow at the church. Private family inurnment at a later date. The family would like to thank all the staff at Lookout Ridge for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Julie (Julianna) Kelley (nee Balabas) of London, Ontario, formerly of Fonthill, passed away at Victoria Hospital in London in the early hours of Tuesday June 12th in her 64th year.
Julie was predeceased by her loving husband Gary Laurence Kelley and her mother Ilona Balabas. Devoted mother to Sean (Jennifer) and Meagan (Kyle), and adoring Nana to grandchildren Jackson, Spencer and Sadie.
Julie spent many years of her career working behind the scenes in various healthcare institutions, (Welland Hospital, CCAC, and St Mary’s General Hospital) prior to enjoying retirement with her children and grandchildren.
Julie will be greatly missed by extended family including siblings and beloved nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by dear friends in Niagara, Kitchener and London, as well as relatives in Hungary.
Respecting Julie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Lampman Funeral Home 724 Canboro Rd, Fenwick Saturday June 23rd 1 P.M. Fellowship to follow at Old Pelham Town Hall 491 Canboro Rd, Ridgeville.
If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Canadian Paediatric Stroke Support Association (www.CPSSA.org) are greatly appreciated.
No time to cry, don’t shed a tear, I am with God, in spirit I am here, I kept the faith, my spirit is light, I am at peace now, I fought the good fight.
