BERNIE DOUGLAS CHEYNOWSKI

Surrounded by his loving family, Bernie passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 at the age of 87. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Margaret (2017). He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sorrowfully missed by all who loved him.

Growing up on his family farm, Bernie developed a strong work ethic and carried that through his life. At age 15 he signed on with a great lakes freighter and spent 10 years sailing the lakes. As his family grew, he came ashore and settled in for 30 years at General Motors.

Bernie pursued many hobbies through the years, including scuba-diving, snowmobiling, trap-shooting, motorcycle riding and poker. His greatest pleasure by far was fishing, dubbed “the Legend of lake Erie”, Bernie spent many hours on the lake ‘wetting a line’. His children and grandchildren have been left a lifetime of memories.

Bernie’s family will welcome visitors at Lampman Funeral Home, 724 Canboro Rd, Fenwick, on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 11am to 12pm. A funeral service will be held at 12pm in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment at Zion Cemetery.

Memorial donations made to Red Roof Retreat would be appreciated by Bernie’s family.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lampman Funeral Home.
