JOAN ELIZABETH ALTOFT (NASH)

ALTOFT, JOAN ELIZABETH (NASH) – formerly of St. Catharines, Bancroft, Frankford and Picton, passed away in the Welland County General Hospital on Wednesday January 7, 2015 in her 84th year after a lengthy illness. Daughter of the late William and Hannah Nash. Loving wife of the late William (2013). Mother of William (Virginia) of Wainfleet, Gregory (Annette) of Prince George B.C., Christopher (Susan) of Picton, and Stephanie (Wayne) Dillabough of Bancroft. Devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Sister of Nipper (Barbara)Nash, June (Wesley) Miller, Gail (Dennis) Switzer, Linda (Jim) Hale, sister-in-law of Betty (Ron) Nash, Stan (Anne) Altoft, Lillian (Walter) Altoft, Nancy (Gregg) Scott. Predeceased by brother Ronald Nash, brother Harold Nash and his wife Marlene, and brother-in-law Walter Altoft. Joan spent many years working with developmentally challenged individuals in the Niagara and Bancroft areas. Joan and Bill owned and operated the Bancroft KOA Campground for 25 years. She was a devoted and loving mother who took exceptional pride in her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Affectionately called the “Pioneer Woman” by her sisters, she enjoyed reading and the company of her many Labrador Retrievers. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration will be announced at a later date. Our family wishes to express our sincere thanks to all the professional and caring staff of the Continuing Care and ILTC units at the Welland Hospital.
